Why Our Children Need Scripture in Their Home
When building a Christian home, we know that God needs to be at the centre of it. This means He is always present. How do we make His presence known? With His word!
The Bible is full of scripture verses that are encouraging, inspiring and can fill us with strength or peace or purpose. We need these constant reminders as a foundation for our Christian faith.
Our children need to see these in their home, to read them and be reminded of who their God is!
Where to Put Scripture
You can put scripture in the obvious places, like as artwork on the wall. This can be a beautiful way to remind your family about God’s presence in an aesthetically pleasing way.
You also can have scripture cards tucked away in different places too. Sitting on your kid’s dressers or desks, inside drawers or on a mirror.
You could even hide them so your kids find them as they are playing! My kids love doing “Easter egg hunts” anytime of the year. I hide objects for them to go and find. It’s a great indoor activity.

Verses for Kids
Joshua 1:9
”Do not be afraid, do not be discouraged for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”
This is a good verse to have in your kids’ rooms. I took comfort in it when my babies were young, knowing that God was always with them. Then I repeated it to them as they got older so they could be reminded of His presence.
Having it hanging in their bedroom is a great way for them to be reminded of their heavenly father’s care for them but also that He is their strength.
1 John 3:1
“See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God.”
Telling your children they are children of God is a wonderful way to let them know that God has them set apart as His family. He loves us so much that we are His children.
It helps put things in perspective for little minds, because they are children who have loving parents! You have shown your child love and we can tell them that God’s love is greater than anyone else’s. His love gave us Jesus, it gave us the good things we have and will be with us wherever we go.
Hebrews 3:4
“For every house is built by someone, but God is the builder of everything.”
For all the Mamas out there with kids who are into construction (like my boys), this is the verse for them!
What a great reminder of the physical gift we have to build things. Not only that but we have a God who is the builder of everything! Our Lord understands what it is to put things together, to tinker away at creating wonderful things, just like our little people.
It’s no wonder our children love to explore and build with blocks, or create houses for their dolls and animals to live in. As people made from God’s image it is in their nature to make things.

Philippians 4:6
“Do not worry about anything, but in every situation, by prayer, with thanksgiving, give your requests to God.”
Just as adults worry, children worry as well. The darkness seems so dark, the wasp in the park buzzing too close or something scary they saw on TV. With active imaginations it’s easy for them to unravel quickly.
This verse helps remind them that they don’t need to worry and instead should talk to their Heavenly Father! Lay it out to Him and let Him carry the load of worry, pain or sorrow.
John 13:34
”Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.”
Oh the days of sibling rivalry and disputes. Being a constant referee is exhausting. This verse helps remind kids that God calls us to love one another. Regardless of who the person is, a brother, a sister, a friend, someone who has wronged us, we are not asked to inflict judgement on them. It is our job to show Jesus’ love in every situation and to every person.
Of course putting this verse up or repeating it to them isn’t going to make your children stop bickering (lol) but when they are reminded of Jesus’ love, which isn’t just for themselves but for others, it grows in their mind. We plant the seed so that God can grow it in their hearts. The way we should treat others, constantly reminding them and letting God continue to work in their lives.
