A prayer for mom sometimes is a prayer for her family; The thing she holds most dear. This is the story of one mom’s prayer for another during a time of need.

A Prayer for Mom in Stressful Situations
We were on our way home. An early morning breakfast with the family and quick pick up of soil from the garden centre.
It was Sunday. Should we have been heading to church? Maybe. But we were having a jelly day, puttering around and just enjoying our time together without feeling rushed.
We were 5 minutes from home, heading down the same country road we’ve taken a hundred times, past the blooming apple trees and freshly tilled fields. The sky was clear blue with a bright sun. The kind of day that feels like a special gift from God, with endless possibilities.
My husband suddenly slowed down and stopped.
There in front of us was debris spread across the road. To our left was a van in the ditch and up ahead an SUV visibly crumpled and lying on its side. There were kids in the ditch to the right and a mom carrying another child from the van.
We parked the truck and jumped out, leaving our kids safely in their car seats.
My husband immediately called 911 while I ran to the grass to help the kids.
5 of them, shaken, bleeding and worried about the remaining family members. I learned there was another child trapped in the van along with their dad (the driver).
I ran back to our truck to grab whatever I could to help.
I had an old receiving blanket, our “truck blanket” and another truck blanket I had recently bought for “just in case moments.”
“This is the just in case moment.” I said to myself as I grabbed it. I also had two king size pillow cases and a travel pack of Kleenex.
I told the boys we would be back and went to the group of kids on the ground.
I wrapped them in blankets and checked them over for any immediate injuries. Nose bleed, seatbelt bruises and a possible head injury, but they were alive and talking. They knew their names and birthdates.
They had been on their way to church.
So I prayed with them. Huddled in the grass on a sunny Sunday morning, I should have been praying in a Sunday morning service but here I was being a mom to a group of kids while their mom waited with her injured husband and son as we waited for EMS.
2 fire trucks, 4 ambulances, half a dozen police cars and a helicopter later they were safely assessed and loaded into emergency vehicles to be taken care of at the hospital.
We sat in our truck and watched. Essentially trapped because the road was blocked in both directions. It was over an hour before we made it back home.
I spent the rest of the day thinking about that family. How they were sent to different hospitals, how that mom had 6 kids to care for and a husband with critical injuries. I didn’t know her name or where she lived, I had barely spoken to her but I did all I could for her; I prayed for her family in a moment when she couldn’t.
And I continued to pray.
My mission field is usually in my home. In the safety and security of my four walls but this is where I have learned how to pray as a mom. Pray an intercessors prayer, pray a mom’s prayer, prayer for protection and peace, comfort and wisdom.
And that practice took shape on the side of a country road with someone else’s family.
As Christian moms this is what we should be doing. We should be looking out for the moms who need prayer. When we’ve done all we can do, our final and most important action to take is prayer.
Sometimes the best prayer for mom is to say a prayer for her family. Something I didn’t realize until I prayed for someone else’s family.
