Walking By Faith: What It Really Looks Like in a Christian Home

Hey Mama. We talk a lot about rooting ourselves in Christ, abiding in Him, staying connected to the vine. But today I want to get really practical. Because walking by faith according to scripture isn’t just a beautiful concept we nod along to on a Sunday morning. It is a daily, lived out, in the trenches kind of thing. It is your declaration of faith and your actions going hand in hand — in your kitchen, your car, your quiet moments, and every messy moment in between.

And here is the thing — scripture actually tells us how to do this. There are specific places in the Bible where God gets practical about what walking in faith looks like. So today we are anchoring ourselves in three of them.

What Does “Walking By Faith” Actually Mean for Moms?

When you have little people watching your every move — every good moment and every not so good moment — walking by faith takes on a whole new meaning. Because suddenly it is not just about your personal relationship with God. It is about what your children are seeing, absorbing, and carrying with them into their own lives.

Your declaration of faith and your actions were always meant to go together. You cannot say you are a Christian and then not live it out. And you cannot do good things and live a good life but leave God completely out of it. Those two things have to work together. And that is exactly what walking by faith looks like in a Christian home — it is faith and action, woven together, showing up in the everyday.

It is not going to be perfect. Mama gets frustrated. Mama gets mad. Mama gets hungry. All of those things. But walking in faith means that even in those moments — especially in those moments — we are bringing God into it. And that is what our children are watching.

Fill Your Mind With Good Things — Philippians 4:8-9

Philippians 4:8-9 tells us to choose to focus our minds on good, honorable, noble things. And this is something I say to my kids quite often. We need to be intentional about what we are bringing into our minds, our homes, and our lives.

It is so easy to get caught up scrolling through social media or picking up something that is not really filling us with anything good. And this is exactly where podcasts, audiobooks, and worship music become such a powerful tool for busy moms. When you are intentional about what you listen to during the day — while you fold laundry, make dinner, drive to school — you are weaving God’s truth into the ordinary moments.

So make yourself a worship playlist, Mama. Have an audiobook or podcast ready for the car. When these things are prepared ahead of time it is so much easier to just hit play and let God’s truth fill your space throughout the day.

Your Home Is Your Mission Field — James 2:14-24

Faith without works is dead, but works without faith is pointless. And this is where Christian homemaking becomes faith in action — but only when you are choosing to do it for God.

The meals, the laundry, the bedtime routines — all of it becomes an act of worship when your heart is in the right place. Your home is your mission field, Mama. You do not have to go anywhere to make an eternal difference. You are right there every single day raising your own little disciples — your own Davids and Daniels and Esthers who are going to grow up with their own faith journey and their own deep roots.

Talk about God naturally throughout the day. Bring up the Bible stories. Remind them. You will be amazed at what they retain — even on the days when you feel like nothing is getting through, they are listening. And on the hard days, the frustrating days, the days when you need to ask forgiveness — those are part of walking in faith too. We are not aiming at perfection. We are aiming at our best with God’s support, and where we fall short He makes up the difference with grace and wisdom every single time.

Write It On the Doorframes — Deuteronomy 6:4-9

Deuteronomy 6:4-9 tells us to love the Lord with our entire being and let it show. To write scripture on the doorframes of our homes, to talk about God as we come and go, to impress His love onto our children throughout the day.

Walking by faith is so much more than wearing a Jesus t-shirt and going to church on Sunday. It is loving God so completely that you cannot help but bring Him into everything — your conversations, your discipline, your encouragement, your daily rhythms. This is where scripture cards around your home and Bible verses as decor go from decoration to declaration. Those little reminders on the kitchen window and the bathroom mirror keep pointing you and your children back to God all day long.

And it does not have to be complicated. Sit down with your kids while they are colouring or doing a quiet activity and open your own Bible right there beside them. Let them see you reading, journaling, praying. Let them see what walking in faith looks like up close — because those small, ordinary moments are the ones they will carry with them forever.

What does walking by faith look like in your home?

Walking By Faith in the Messy Everyday

Walking by faith according to scripture is not reserved for the moms who have it all together. It is for you — right now, in your loud and messy and beautiful home. It is in the kitchen conversations, the worship songs, the seeds you are quietly planting every single day.

When we are rooted in Christ, when we are spending time in His Word, we have that knowledge to act on throughout the day. Read it, sing it, pray it, write it. Simple faithfulness, Mama. That is all it takes — and it will grow deep roots in you and in your children.
