Scriptures to pray over your husband to cover him in God’s word!
I talk about my little kitchen prayer that happened a few years ago. My husband was in the process of promoting at work and was being met with some roadblocks. No fault of his own, he was more than qualified for the position. All he could do was put his best foot forward but it was frustrating sitting in the waiting and hoping for a good outcome.
I didn’t know how to pray for him so for a long time I had been waiting for the Holy Spirit to impress on me what I needed to say. And when the spirit moves, you must follow!
I was in the middle of making breakfast when suddenly I knew what I needed to say. Not only that but I could feel the spirit moving me to pray right then and there. So I stopped, breadknife in hand and prayed for my husband.
We found out a few days later he had gotten the position. Do you know when the decision had been made? That day I said my kitchen prayer.
The Spirit may not always tell you what to pray, or there might be times you already know what your husband is going through or who needs the prayer. In those times or in the waiting for God’s answers, pray these scriptures!
What to Pray Over Your Husband
Praying scripture over your husband is simply saying the verses as if you are speaking about your spouse. You can insert their name into the prayer at any point, emphasizing areas where you know your husband needs more prayer.
These prayers can be during your personal prayer time or throughout the day as you think of them. I also pray for my husband at night as we fall asleep!
A deeper love for God
Matthew 22:37 (NIV):
“Jesus replied: ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’”
Thank you Lord that my husband has a love for you, help it to grow deeper, so He loves you with all his heart, with all his soul and all his mind.

Spiritual wisdom & insight
Ephesians 1:17–18 (NIV):
“I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you…”
Thank you Lord for the wisdom you have given my husband. Please open the eyes of his heart and reveal the hope for which you have called him and help him fulfill your plans.
Integrity & character
Proverbs 20:7 (ESV):
“The righteous who walks in his integrity—blessed are his children after him!
Lord I thank you for the integrity of my husband. I pray he would continue to walk in righteousness and truth so he would be blessed.
Strength & courage
Joshua 1:9 (NIV):
“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”
Lord thank you for the strength my husband possess. I pray you would continue to fill him with courage so he would not be afraid or discouraged and continuously be reminded that you are with him wherever he goes.
Protection
Psalm 91:1–2, 11 (NIV):
“Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, ‘He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.’ … For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways.”
Thank you God for always providing my husband with protection. May he always declare you his refuge and fortress, continuously trusting in you and seeking your protection over his life.

Peace & freedom from anxiety
Philippians 4:6–7 (NIV):
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
Lord I thank you for always being the peace in every situation. I pray that my husband would be anxious about nothing, he would present all his requests before you and that you would guard his heart and mind from worry.
Work & provision
Colossians 3:23–24 (NIV):
“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.”
Heavenly Father, I thank you for such a hard working husband. I pray that he would choose to work for you, not any human and to seek you with all that he does.
Discernment
1 Thessalonians 5:21-22
“But test everything; hold fast what is good. Abstain from every form of evil.”
Thank you God for giving my husband discernment. I pray he would continue to test everything against your word, to hold fast to what is good and seek your ways, always.
Endurance in trials
Isaiah 40:31 (NIV):
“But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”
Lord I thank you for your hand of protection over my husband. I pray that during the struggles and trials he would seek your strength. Renew him so he can run the race and not grow weary!
Build others up
1 Thessalonians 5:11 (NIV)
“Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.”
Thank you Lord for a husband who speaks words of truth. I pray he would use his words to build up those around him.
