Growing a Home Full of Love – Planting the Love Seed God Gave You

God gives everyone a love seed. It is small but mighty and when we plant it in our dwelling we can grow a home full of love, giving our families the foundation for their faith!

God gives everyone a seed, a seed of love to plant in their lives. Building a Christian home means planting that seed, nurturing it and enjoying as it blossoms into a home full of love.

A Home Full of Love

God’s love is the kind of love that transcends time and space and it most definitely will transform your space into one of joy and peace.

How?

God loves us in an intimate way. He knows our names, He knows who we are, He knitted us together in our mother’s womb (Psalm 139:13). And thusly He loves us in the way we need to be loved, unexpectedly, profoundly and beyond comprehension.

When we get married, get a pet and bring home our first bundle of joy, when we start that chapter in our lives that we call “family,” that is when our little love seed really starts to grow.

You see, our homes are the light in a dark space. When you pull onto your street and breathe a sigh of relief to be home it is because your house is a place of safety. It is a place of comfort where all of your favourite things reside. A family, your bed, your favourite Bible, your husband, the family pictures from last summer’s trip.

Your home is a place you have pieced together to live and grow and flourish. And we want a home full of love, God’s love. We want to plant that love seed and water it, feed it, watch it grow and reap the fruits from it.

But like all seeds, they need care. They need light, they need nourishment and they might need pruning. But if we take the time and effort we will grow fruits for our family to eat, fruit they can take with them so they will have love seeds of their own to plant in their homes.

What Are Some Ways We Can Nurture the Love Seed in Our Homes?

Bring Light Into Your Home

God is the light that makes our homes shine bright. He is the light our little seeds need so they can grow.

His word is the nourishment, the daily bread that the little seed needs to grow strong.

You want that little seed to grow roots, strong roots so that when storms come, your tree of God’s love will withstand them.

You can’t grow a love seed without God’s light and His nourishment, so bring it into your space. Bring Christian books, music and conversation into your home. Set them on the tables, your counters, write love on your doorframe. Let there be a constant hum of God’s presence in your space, a light that shines day and night so that little seed will blossom.

Speak Each Other’s Love Languages

If you haven’t read Gary Chapman’s book 5 Love Languages you really should. It will help you understand the people in your house and how they need to be loved.

God knows you and He sets the example for how we should love our children. God loves everyone, but the way He shows love is equitably, not equally. In other words, God gives each of us what we need when we need it, we don’t all get the same all the time.

This means when you need love that is comfort, God gives you comfort.

When you need love that is strength, God gives you strength.

When you need love that is patient, God gives you patience.

What God is giving to someone else is based on their time and place of their journey.

Your children and spouse are the same. Giving them love as they need it, speaking their love language will help them during whatever time they are in.

If your child is someone who benefits from quality time and you can see they have had a tough day, take ten minutes with them alone in their room to read a story, play a game or simply chat.

If your child is someone who likes physical touch, rub their back or hand while reading a story.

You get the idea.

Plant your love seed so God’s love abides in your home.

This will continue to grow your love seed. Your tree will become stronger because you are sharing love and showing love to everyone in your home. This fosters harmony, it fosters creativity, it fosters peace.

And you will start to see fruit growing on that tree so your family can continue to learn about who God made them to be.

Grow in Faith

Once your love seed is established and growing, once your family is secure in the love of their Heavenly Father (and you), then it’s time to start growing deeper in faith.

Fruits of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23) are a good place to start. To teach your family about how God wants them to behave, how God wants them to treat others and God’s purpose for their life.

As you read more Bible stories and teach your children about the deeper meaning of God’s love, they will grow deeper in faith. Your little love seed that you planted so many years ago will bear fruit, good fruit that your children can take with them when they leave your home.

Love Seeds Can Grow Anywhere

The wonderful thing about love seeds is that they can grow anywhere. God doesn’t give you just one.

God wants us to plant those love seeds everywhere. He wants us to hand out our fruit to people we know. To share with them our patience, self-control, honesty and forgiveness.

What we harvest from our tree, grown from God’s love seed is a family that is walking in God’s love. They walk in the firm foundation of faith that has been established through your teachings and love.

So keep nurturing that love seed. Let it grow and blossom into a home full of love, with roots so deep they cannot be pulled up by a storm and branches so strong your children can swing from them.

That is the kind of home you are building mama. A home of love, a home of God’s love.
