Plan in Pencil Because God’s Plans Are in Stone

I’m always amazed by God‘s plan and purposes for our lives. He is truly amazing in all that he does and everything He creates for us. It reminds me why I plan in pencil so God can have His plans in stone!

So often we have ideas for ourselves that change because God‘s greater purpose is different than what we thought.

And that’s okay! Because we know God’s plans are perfect.

2024 Recap

My plans for 2024 were to focus on the book of Psalms, joy and my health.

I can say that while I did work on Psalms, it fell by the wayside as other bigger plans and topics took form. So guess what? It’s being pencilled into 2025 but with a better idea of what it will look like.

As for joy, I wanted to enjoy my oldest before he headed off to school. And I did that, to the best of my ability, but what I also found was joy in spending time with my two-year-old. I had forgotten what it was like to run with a toddler and the renewed excitement filled my days with joy!

In terms of health, I am definitely better than I was but still will be working on maintaining and improving the progress I have made!

Plan in Pencil

As I look back, I marvel at how God puts plans into action. The hard part is sitting in the waiting time, wondering what to do next, trying to find an activity to occupy our minds and fingers.

I have sat in the waiting period for a long time. I have drawn close to God during the waiting times. I am still in the waiting period, which is why I make plans with pencil. God has His story for me written in stone and one thing I have learned is that I cannot rewrite what He has written.

If I start setting goals for myself and come to a place where God’s rock-solid plan is different from my own, it is much easier to make changes when they are only in pencil.

I plan in pencil so it is easier to change on the fly.

Making plans with God means growing closer to Him. Check out my favourite resources to help you do that!

We live in a different “time” than God does. Which makes us anxious, or try to speed ahead to what is next. What we need to do is live in God’s time. To fall into step with Him, keep our pencils on the page and erasers ready for when He needs us suddenly and our plans have to be modified.

I made plans with God, aligned with Him and they still changed! As the year progressed and I met new people or had new opportunities come up, I had to adjust my course to continue to walk with God.

This is why I plan in pencil. This is why I don’t set a goal but rather have open ended ideas of what I want to accomplish. Then I can change course as God needs me to. What He has for me today might be different in six months, and I have to be ready to adjust based on His road map.

I know the plans I have for you” declares the Lord.

God knows it all. So when we come to the start of a new year and we look ahead at fresh opportunities, we also need to be reminded of the one who has all plans written down.

It’s good to try new things, to want to better your lifestyle or start a new hobby. These fresh ideas make us human, give us joy and bring fun into our day-to-day lives. As we venture into goals and plans, we need to walk with an open mind. We need to remember that we can’t see the end of all things and what we do today may change tomorrow depending on God’s needs.

So plan in pencil. Let God’s mighty hand write your story in stone so you know you are following a solid map that is unshakable because it is written by one who does not change.

Plan in pencil because God’s plans are forever!
