Do you enjoy cake? A rich chocolate cake or maybe a light a fluffy angel food? Cake is good but it isn’t what we should be sustaining ourselves on. We need to be eating our daily bread, both in the realistic sense and in the biblical sense.
“Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.”
Matthew 4:4

Our Bible is our bread and butter, our daily bread and butter. It is the sustenance we need to grow in our faith. When we consume the things that are good for our body and soul, we get stronger. When we walk with God everyday, we grow in our faith.
If we treat the Bible like cake and only eat it on special occasions, we gain next to nothing from it. The Bible is not meant to be a luxury, something that comes out at special events or as a dessert after a long meal.
The Bible should be what sustains us everyday, all day. From morning until night it is what gives us the strength to keep going, the wisdom to choose our path and the faith that our Heavenly Father has everything under control.
So how do we enjoy this daily bread everyday? Even in the midst of chaos or struggle or pain? These are three things that can help you be close to God and consume your “daily bread” everyday!
Read Your Bible Everyday
Reading it is a good start! You can’t pretend to eat bread just as you can’t pretend to know your Bible without opening it up and consuming it. Start with your favourite scripture or passage, or as my personal favourite, jump into the book of Psalms!
Read for the Moment You Are In
Read it from the perspective of the situation you are in. As a mom, what does it say about motherhood? As a grandparent, what does it say about raising adult children and grandchildren? As a working adult, what does it say about sharing the gospel or tithing?
Seek God for the moment you are in and seek His plans for your life at this time. You need sustenance today so that you can walk in strength tomorrow.
Keep Scriptures Close to Your Heart
The wonderful thing about God’s word, which is unlike a real piece of bread, you can keep it in your heart and meditate on it throughout the day! It’s hard to keep a piece of bread in your pocket but God’s word can be there, strengthening you and encouraging you. This can be in the physical form of a scripture card you carry or put in your kitchen window, or it can be memorized verses.
However you are consuming it, let God’s daily bread be part of your walk so that you are close to God in ever situation.

Eat Your Daily Bread
Jesus is the bread of life (John 6:48) and the only way we can grow stronger as Christians is by consuming God’s word everyday. Not just on special occasions, not as a sweet piece of cake when their is a celebration or because we need to comfort ourselves during difficulties. We need to be in the word, everyday.
During the busy seasons and slow seasons, God has things to tell us and wants to be with us. Let the Bible be the daily bread that fills your soul and helps you through every situation that comes your way!
