The Best Homemade Bread

The Best Homemade Bread

The best homemade bread recipe you will ever try. This is my go-to recipe for bread, which I make frequently! Grab your flour, bread maker and yeast and let’s get baking!

I love bread. There isn’t anything to compare it to!

I’ve recently started avoiding excessive seed oils and additives, which can be hard in modern day society. One of the ways I can remove it from my diet is by making my own bread.

I’ve tried a few different recipes but this one is by far the best. It makes a large amount (2 big loaves or 3 smaller loaves) and freezes well. I make a big batch, slice and freeze the pieces to use as needed.

The other fantastic thing about this homemade bread is that it uses whole wheat flour too!

Try it for yourself, you won’t be able to go back to store-bought bread again!

The best homemade bread (ever!)

The Best Homemade Bread

Ingredients

  • 1 3/4 cup warm water
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 TBSP yeast (I use traditional)
  • 1/4 cup melted butter
  • 1 egg (room temperature)
  • 5 cups flour (I do 3 cups whole wheat, 2 cups white)*
  • 2 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 TBSP milk wash

Directions

  1. Add water, sugar, yeast, melted butter, egg, flour and salt to bread maker in that order.
  2. Set machine to dough setting (usually about 90 minutes). Check dough during the beginning of the cycle to ensure it is the right consistency. You want it tacky but not sticky. Add additional flour or water depending on need.
  3. Once finished, remove dough from machine and place in a clean bowl, then cover with a clean towel. Let the dough double in size.
  4. Preheat oven to 350F. Prepare 2 or 3 loaf pans with parchment paper (depending how many loaves you want).
  5. Punch dough down. Separate into 2 or 3 equal pieces. Form into bread shape and place into pan. Spread milk over top of dough.
  6. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until top is brown and the bread has a “hollow” sound when tapped.
  7. Let the bread cool in the pan for 10 minutes before moving to a cooling rack. Let it cool completely before slicing.

Notes:

When using whole wheat flour it is best to reduce amount by 1 TBSP/cup of flour.

Do not try to cut the bread while it is hot. Wait until it is cooled.

This bread freezes amazing. Slice, put in freezer bag, remove excess air and toss in the freezer. Pull out when ready to eat!
