DIY Lego Themed Party Ideas – Perfect for Birthdays of All Ages!

There’s nothing better than a kid’s party, especially when it’s Lego themed! Lego is so fun and versatile. It’s the sort of theme that is suitable for kids (and adults) of all ages! Here are some DIY ideas for your next Lego themed party!

We’re still very much in the “Duplo” stage at our house, but we are starting to accumulate more traditional Lego now that E is older. I love how creative kids can be with it…the only downside is all the tiny pieces that fall and then bounce away 🤦🏻‍♀️

Lego is so durable though. Those things can go through a vacuum cleaner and come out looking like they were just opened yesterday. Which is great for my boys who are hard on toys.

Anyways, if you’re planning a building block (aka, Lego) party and need some inspiration or ideas, here are a few things I did for my son’s party!

DIY Lego Birthday Party Ideas

1. Lego Colouring Pages

This is a great way to start your party as kids start arriving and need an activity they can get into. Included in the printable are 3 different Lego people you can print and have ready for kids to colour!

2. How Many (Blocks) in the Jar

This is great for older kids who can count past 20 (lol). I found building block candy at the Bulk Barn and filled a glass jar with them. You also could use regular Lego building blocks!

Then you just set the sheet out and let everyone know they should take a minute and guess. Once everyone has put a number down, whoever is closest to the actual amount wins a prize! I gave away the jar with the block candy but you can decide what the prize is.

For reference, in this small-sized jar, I fit 102 candy blocks.

3. Timed Building Events

Depending on your group, you can do individual or teams for some timed events using your lego blocks. Start with easy things (build the tallest tower in a certain amount of time etc).

Then do more complicated things like building a certain object in an amount of time. Or you can do competitions to see who can build something the fastest.

If you can get your hands on some big boxes they are great for building towers or bridges in timed events too.

Be creative and use what Lego or blocks you have available to you. The more blocks you have, the bigger the projects can be!

4. Lego Person Scavenger Hunt

We had so much fun hunting for hidden Lego people around the house with these clues from Frugal Fun for Boys and Girls!

Scavenger hunts are always so fun and it also makes for a good indoor activity if you can’t get outside.

This activity can be as easy or difficult as you want. All of our hidden Lego people were pretty visible and my four-year-old needed some extra help to head in the right direction, but he had a blast doing it!

Alternatively, if you can get outside, ditch the cards and just do a Lego hunt by hiding the little people (or pieces) around your yard!

Who’s that Lego person hiding in my fridge? What a fun scavenger hunt!

5. Food!

I don’t have great pictures of our food because I had screaming kids running around while I was prepping 🤦🏻‍♀️

But we did “build your lego crackers”, with cheese and meat. I bought turkey sticks and sliced them thinly, then put 4 on a piece of cheese on a cracker. Perfect for little fingers.

I also made brownie “legos.” Just cut it into squares, spread coloured icing on top and add 4 M&M’s to look like a Lego block.

And for the cake, I did a 9×13” cake with 6 cupcakes spaced out on top to look like one big Lego block. Then I iced everything with our favourite Pudding Frosting to finish it off. Unfortunately, I didn’t get a picture because things were a little hectic in my kitchen at the time!

I got boxes and wrapped them to use as lego decoration. My tablecloth (and napkins and plates) came from Walmart.
Boxes are great for decor and later for building!

I found building block-themed decorations at Walmart (and later at Superstore too). So we had a tablecloth, plates and napkins with “Lego” blocks on them. I also got 20 big boxes to decorate the house with. I wrapped them in brightly coloured wrapping paper to resemble blocks. We also played with the boxes (and my one-year-old “unwrapped” them all later). There’s nothing more fun than jumbo sized blocks to build with!

Be creative!

Lego is great for creativity, so harness it! Use your Lego pieces in your decor, build a Lego cup to hold utensils or create a number or letter to display. Let your imagination run wild as you plan a fun Lego Birthday Party! And as a bonus, everything you need for planning is in my free printable 👇
