Verses for a Mom’s Heart

Trust the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding.

Proverbs 3:5

Before we love our spouse, before we love our kids, we have to love God. He has to be at the centre of our motherhood journey and we have to trust that His ways are higher than our ways. We can’t rely on what we think we understand, we need God’s plans for our home and His purposes for our children.

Yes, my soul, find rest in God; my hope comes from Him.

Psalm 62:5

On the days when we need rest, we can find it in God. We can draw strength from Him and trust that He has plans for every moment of motherhood.

Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine.

Isaiah 43:1

This verse has gotten me through some tough mothering days. It is a beautiful reminder that God knows us on an intimate level, He has redeemed us and called us by name. Even when we feel unprepared we can take comfort in knowing that God didn’t accidentally give us children. They came for a purpose and because we belong to God, they are a perfect gift!

Perhaps this is the moment for which you have been created.

Esther 4:14

Everything you have ever done is leading up to these days of motherhood. The moment you find yourself in, with your children and your home, you were created for it. God knew these would be hard days but He also knew you would create beauty out of the difficulty. Trust Him, trust His plan!

The Lord your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; He will rejoice over you with gladness; He will quiet you with His love; He will exult over you with singing.

Zephaniah 3:17

God enjoys seeing us be happy and rejoices over us. We can draw strength and joy from Him as we go about our day. If He is singing, we can sing too. We can break out the worship music and be joyful in the task of being Mom because it is God’s will!

I find rest in your presence.

Exodus 33:14

For your weary mama heart, when you cannot spend quiet time with God, find rest in His presence. Invite Him into the chaos of your home, draw close to Him as you play with your children. Let His mighty hand rest on your shoulder and remind you that it’s okay to slow down and enjoy being a busy mom.

It is hard but it is worth it and God will walk with you the entire way!

Verses for Parenting

For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven.

Ecclesiastes 3:1

I love this verse as a reminder that whatever parenting stage you are in, good or bad, it won’t last forever. We can enjoy the difficult times knowing they are only a season of our children’s lives. And we cherish the good times because they are the memories we will hold on to when we are old.

For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.

2 Timothy 1:7

Raising children can be terrifying. The constant worry that we are doing something wrong weighs heavily on a mom’s mind. But we can rest knowing that God did not give us a spirit of fear. He has given us love for our children and self-control, even on the days when we feel like we might explode.

Lean on Him during those hard days and remember He never intended for you to be fearful in your motherhood journey!

I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in (her), bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.

John 16:5

If we think of our children as our fruit, we can be reminded that if we are connected to the vine, we are raising fruit (or children) that are being cared for by the master gardener. God will be with us and help us in every parenting decision if we remain in Him. Without Him, we grow our fruit on artificial branches!

Children are a gift from the Lord; they are a reward from Him.

Psalm 127:3

Even on the days when your kids are driving you crazy, be reminded that they are a gift. Perhaps a temperamental gift without an instruction manual, but a gift nonetheless. And God gave you that gift knowing that they need you and you will be able to manage them.

Verses for a Mom’s Home

And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it was founded on the rock.

Matthew 7:25

A Christian home has a mom who has focused her life on God and built everything around Him. When He is the cornerstone of her dwelling, her house will not fall because it is built on the rock!

You shall teach love diligently to your children, and shall talk of it when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down and when you rise.

Deuteronomy 6:7

When love is spoken in the home, it changes family relationships. When Moms talk about God’s love and share it with their children, they grow up knowing what true love…God’s love looks like, feels like and where they will always find it.

For whoever has entered God’s rest has also rested from His works as God did from His.

Hebrews 4:10

Let yourself take a break. God rested from His work and as Moms we also deserve to rest. Motherhood is an all-consuming job but it shouldn’t be done 24/7, 365 days a year. Taking a break does not make you a bad mom or a bad wife. Let yourself recharge!

In peace I will both lie down and sleep; for you alone, O LORD, make me dwell in safety.

Psalm 4:8

When you do finally get to bed at night, or after night feedings, sleep restfully knowing that you dwell in God’s safety. He wants you to feel His peace so that you can recharge your physical body. Let Him carry the worries of the day so your mind can enjoy His peace at night!

Therefore, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain.

1 Corinthians 15:58

Even the tedious jobs that moms do are worthy of God’s praise. The laundry that is folded, the dishes that are washed, the bathrooms that are cleaned, none of these are glamorous jobs but they are not done in vain!

God sees everything a moms does, from teaching her children Bible stories to scrubbing toilets and He knows she works for the good of her family. These are jobs that we do to ensure our children grow up in a home that is not only clean but reflects our Christian beliefs. As Christian moms we stand firm in our Biblical teachings, we pray continuously and are steadfast in our faith.
