Worship the LORD with gladness;
Psalm 100:2
come before him with joyful songs.
We often seek the presence of God during church services or worship services. This is where we feel the Holy Spirit, as God is invited into the space and fills the congregation with His joy. God doesn’t just live in a church building though, He will be present within your own home and you can use worship music as a way of inviting Him in!

Alright, I’m going to tell you a silly story about how I always thought worship music was only for Sundays. You could listen to it during the week but it didn’t have the same feeling behind it without the guitarist and worship leader and the dimmed lights. So during the week it was just music and on Sunday it was worship music.
It’s even more funny to think about because I love music. I am always singing, especially worship songs. And I often have music playing in my own home. But I didn’t think about how worship music can be used outside of a church service to invite God into your space.
Then it dawned on me as I sang “Holy Spirit, you are welcome here…” that I meant those words, I wanted God to be in my kitchen! I wasn’t able to stop and pray or do a Bible study but I could sing that song over and over and over.
If you’re laughing or shaking your head at me, I am doing the same! But as I came to think about it, for so many years I lived in places where people had already invited God into their homes. My own family, the wonderful people I billeted with during my teaching years, Christian summer camps and so on, they had prayed heavily over their homes and families for years.
God was present in their heart and the Holy Spirit was within their walls. They had created a Christian home that was filled with God’s presence. And now it was my turn to do the same.

Fill Your Home with the Holy Spirit
Is there a little bit of pressure here? Yea, a bit. This is an important job. But God doesn’t need invitations with gold foil writing to come into your home. And you don’t need worship leaders and pastors to pray over your space to prepare it for God.
God is already present in your life. He lives in your heart, it’s a matter of intentionally focusing on Him and taking time to enjoy His presence.
You can do this, even if you’re busy. Spending time with God is an essential part of strengthening our relationship with Him. Busy moms still can be Christian moms if they draw close to Him throughout their day.
That’s why we have Christian music! Hymns that remind us of scripture, modern music with God’s faithfulness woven through it. And with today’s audio abilities we can listen anywhere. Or if you love to sing you can annoy your family with the same chorus and bridge over and over again.
The Presence of God
With this music, if we intentionally invite God, He will join us in our homes. He is always there but in order to feel His presence we need to open our hearts to Him. We need to focus on His goodness and grace.
And we need this especially when our home feels chaotic. If there are little people who have emptied all the toy bins and are currently pulling couch cushions off while you try to finish the last bit of a meal…you need God to be present with you to give you strength.
If your home is quiet and you are feeling lonely, you need God’s comfort to join you in the emptiness.
Worship Music
This is where worship music can fill that space. We can listen to the words, hum along to the tune and ask God to be present with us in the moment.
As we listen or sing along we are reminded of God’s faithfulness. And in many songs, we learn scripture as it is in the lyrics.
Music is a wonderful gift. It’s use in a sanctuary to draw a congregation together is a testament to that. And having worship music in your home can have the same effect.
A Christian home is built on God’s presence. As we draw close to God we ask that He fill our spaces so our families can live under His protection. So pull out those Christian songs and ask the Holy Spirit to join you in your daily activities!
What are my favourite worship songs? I’m currently loving “All of My Days” by Ellie Holcomb (I like to kick it old school in the truck with a CD!) but at home I typically have a contemporary Christian playlist going on Spotify!
