Why You Need to Put on the Full Armour of God

Being a Christian sometimes evokes the image of a warrior going into battle. Perhaps that’s not how you pictured your walk with Christ but it is actually what we signed up for. We have to put on the armour of God and face battles we may not expect!

Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.

Ephesians 6:11
Why do we need the armour of God? Devotional from Ephesians 6:11.

I hate conflict. In terms of “fight, flight or freeze,” I’ll run. If I don’t have a good plan in place to handle difficult situations, my reaction is to remove myself until I can figure out what to do.

Fortunately, I have a degree in education and have been blessed with a stubborn streak so my children can’t walk all over me, but in other areas of my life, it can be a huge anxiety. Years of experience dealing with conflict has helped me manage it and I am good at talking people down, but I find it exhausting.

So the idea of wearing armour and walking into a battle is terrifying for me. And yet, this is what we are called to do.

Sometimes we have to fight for the things we believe in. Our faith is one of those things that needs fighting for.

But the armour of God isn’t just armour to fight a battle, it is for our protection as well!

God gives us His armour not just to fight battles but to protect ourselves and our families on the home front.

Put on the armour of God

God Knows What We Will Need

This is the wonderful thing about our Heavenly Father; He knows what each of us needs. He knows that some of us can go out and fight battles, so need armour to protect us in the fray. He also knows that some of us would rather fight on the home front, but still need armour to protect us from the incoming strikes.

You see, we are not fighting physical battles (in case you haven’t picked up on that). These are spiritual battles that we are facing. Forces in this world that would seek to destroy our faith and the Godly family we are raising.

Armour of God

Put on the armour of God so you can raise your children in a strong Christian home!

The Armour of God

This is why God has given us the belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation and the sword of the spirit. These are the tools we need to combat our adversaries.

You will need these, whether you are out working or staying home with your children. You may use them more when raising kids than anywhere else. Those black leggings and messy mom bun are only going to go so far in fighting forces of evil.

But in all seriousness, we need protection and a good offence to be able to teach our children about God.

We need Biblical words of truth to answer their questions. We need righteousness to set an example for behaviour. We need faith to trust that God is there to help us parent our little people. We need salvation to know our mistakes don’t have lasting impacts. And we need the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts and homes and be present with us through every aspect of our lives.

Bible verse from Ephesians 6:11

It’s a lot, but our Lord isn’t going to send us into battle unprepared. He is a God of mercy and grace, the Mighty One who will save. We can rest in the knowledge that He will always take care of us!

And with this protection we know that our children will also learn how to”wear” their armour from God.

Put on the armour of God as you go about your week. Think about the strengths you are covered with. Not only is our Heavenly Father walking with you, but He has also provided you with protection to stand against the forces of evil. Stand firm, be strong in your faith and arm yourself with God’s teachings!
