We all have checklists and things we want to get done in a day. While it’s important to include God in our daily activities, spending time with Him shouldn’t be a checklist item! It should be something we do everyday, without needing to see it on a list of things to do. Our time with God should be meaningful, intentional and focused on God’s purpose for our lives!
You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart.
Jeremiah 29:13

I’ve recently started getting up earlier so I can spend time with God alone. And it’s been amazing. I make my coffee, sit down in the quiet of my kitchen and read my Bible. Sometimes I write, sometimes I pray, and sometimes I sit silently in God’s presence.
It’s one of my favourite parts of the day. It’s not a checklist item. It’s not something I mark as “to-do,” because spending time with God should be a natural thing.
God Doesn’t Fit on a Checklist
If we have to put God on our list of things to do in a day, then He isn’t taking priority. God needs to be the top priority. So much so that He shouldn’t fit on a to-do list because His presence is with us all the time, not just one specific time of day.
It means He needs to be present in our home, so we are constantly reminded of who He is in our lives. This rubs off on our children, when they see us talking with God or reading our Bible throughout the day. They understand our relationship with Him is ongoing and that God is available all the time.
Of course we can’t sit silently in God’s presence all day, not when there are basic human needs that have to be met. God understands this. He knows the motherhood moment you are in requires you to attend to tiny humans and that’s okay!

There are times when it isn’t always possible to sit down in the quiet with God and you might need to get creative. But don’t let those stages of your life become a forever normal. Don’t put Him on the list of things that you need to do and then pass it off as tomorrow’s task.
Don’t tell yourself that you’ll read your Bible when your kids are older. Do it today. Start with this verse, Jeremiah 29:13 and seek God with all your heart!
Talk to God as you rock your baby. Tell your children Bible stories as you walk to the park. Sing praise and worship songs in your vehicle. God can be part of your everyday, in every way!
Take time with God. You won’t regret it. You will never say “I wish I hadn’t sat in God’s presence for so long.” Make it part of your daily routine. Not as an item that you have to do, but as an item you get to do. It’s not a checklist item, make it an item that you look forward to every day!
