Trust in the LORD with all your heart,
Proverbs 3:5-6
and do not lean on your own understanding.
In all your ways acknowledge him,
and he will make straight your paths.
We spend most of our teenage and young adult lives figuring out who we are. We develop our interests, friendships and decide what kind of person we want to be.
The thing is, as we get older sometimes these activities change. We may have had aspirations in our youth that we assumed would continue into our adult lives. But God gives us gifts and talents that we use in different areas, at different stages. As we grow and change, so do our interests and abilities.
Maybe a sport or activity that we once enjoyed and no longer have time for. A hobby that we can’t keep up with. Or a skill that has grown rusty. These can feel like defeats, especially if it was something we were good at. God may have different plans for us though.
We might have families to raise, volunteering to do or new hobbies to tackle. And we need to accept the person God needs us to be. Yes, needs us to be. God always has a plan for our lives which means our skills and abilities may change as we grow.
We need to listen to God’s leading and accept these changes. It might mean learning something new, trying something different or stepping out of our comfort zone. But if we are going to live up to God’s full purpose we have to follow his lead!
Think about who God is asking you to be. Have you accepted it or are you still holding on to who you were? Take it to God in prayer and let him guide your life! Maybe there is something new to learn and master and you won’t know until you accept who God wants you to be!
