Let not steadfast love and faithfulness forsake you;
Proverbs 3:3
bind them around your neck;
write them on the tablet of your heart.
There are a lot of biblical verses about being faithful and stories of people who displayed great faithfulness. Noah, Daniel and David are just a few examples of people who did amazing things because they trusted God.
There’s a difference between having faith and being faithful though. Having faith in God is a basic part of being a Christian. But we also have an action to carry out more than just believing; we have to be faithful to God.
Noah built a boat because of faith.
Daniel entered the lions den because of faith.
David took down a giant because of faith.
They didn’t just have faith that God was good, they trusted his goodness even in the face of danger. They showed their faithfulness to God and in return God was faithful to them.
This isn’t always easy. It can be scary to follow God’s direction, tasks may seem daunting or impossible. But if we truly have faith then we must be faithful.
As a parent sometimes this gets lost in the day-to-day struggles. We forget that God calls us to be parents, just as he calls people to be missionaries. The hard part is that parenting lasts 18+ years. It’s a big commitment.
Acts of faith aren’t meant to be easy. If they were, they wouldn’t require faith!
That’s why faithfulness and motherhood (or parenthood) go hand in hand. God will be faithful to us if we continue to be faithful to him. If we bind love and faithfulness to our hearts (and our homes) God will be with us every step of the way.
Every dirty diaper, every load of laundry, every sticky hug, God rewards our exhaustive efforts. He sees us as we try to raise children in a world where it is becoming increasingly difficult to walk the straight and narrow.
Being faithful to God keeps our focus on him. It gives us strength when we are weak. It is the light for our path, and it shines on those dark days. Faithfulness is what reminds us that what is hard is not impossible with God.
So whatever God is asking you to do, or wherever you are in life, be sure your faith is more than just faith; be sure it is faithful! It is more than believing, act on that belief and show your faithfulness. Add it to your fruit basket! God rewards more than just good deeds, he rewards those who do those deeds out of faith.
