If you follow me on Facebook you’ll know we had our little boy last Thursday. Oh what joy and excitement there is when a baby is born! Baby “B” is happy, healthy and full of spunk. He spent the first few days informing us (very loudly I might add) that there were many things he did not like! He has settled in now and saves his unhappy remarks for bathtime or when someone touches him with something cold.
We were induced, but I also had started contractions ahead of time so labour went relatively quickly and smoothly. However the transition from mom of one to mom of two has been a little more difficult. Your heart may grow two sizes but you need an extra set of hands to go with that growth!
We’ve had a lot of support from family. My in laws were here for a few days and then my mom came (shift change!). This has been amazing for E. His world has been flipped upside down and the mom who once did everything with him has to spend a lot of time with another little person. This has been hard on him and on me. I see him playing in the backyard or going for walks and so desperately want to be out with him but I know for now my newborn needs me and I also need to rest.
But I’ve carved out time to spend with E, try to make sure I am at the table when he eats meals, and put him down for nap/bedtime. I spend time talking with him and constantly tell him how proud we are of him. He is doing really well all things considered. He’s not keen on touching his brother but is very concerned about him when he is crying. I know it won’t be long and he will be able to help with things and that will give him more chances to interact.
We’re still in the early, figuring out stages of this transition and I know there will be hiccups along the way but I love our family of four. Being a mom of two is an adjustment but it’s one I’m excited about. I can’t wait for my boys to play together and learn from one another. Change is inevitable and this is such a good change.
So for now my blog posts will be a little more sporadic. I’ve been writing this post in my head all week but didn’t have the hands to type it out. I love blogging and as a mom it is my creative outlet, which all moms need to feel sane! So I will strive to keep writing and share what I learn with having two boys at home (and a husband and a dog). It’s an adventure, one of my favourites so far and I can’t wait to keep exploring!
