How is it Palm Sunday already? That means Easter is next week! We’ve been busy so the days have snuck up on me but here we are at one of my favourite holidays. I love Easter and I love the story we read on Palm Sunday.
The idea that Jesus came riding on an untrained donkey is pretty miraculous in itself. If you know horses/donkeys you know that there are few untrained animals that will let you ride them. And then people lay down palm branches ahead of him and danced. Such an exciting day!
Perhaps you are familiar with the song “Hosanna (Jumping Up and Down),” it’s a kids song with actions and E loves it. He will sing it with me and jump up and down. Currently he’s a kangaroo when he jumps, he’s very specific with that, telling me after we’ve sung that’s the animal he is. Kids are so funny. But I love that there are songs that can get kids excited!
I really enjoy Palm Sunday. Often times churches will have palm branches for the children to wave around, which is fun to watch. It’s a bible story that young kids can understand and older people have a deeper understanding of. It also means there are some important days ahead, with Good Friday and Easter Sunday coming up.
I want to spend the week preparing for Easter, crafts with E but also reading the bible. There is so much involved in this holiday, more than just Easter eggs. E is still young (death and resurrection is a big concept) but I’m glad there are other ways we can talk about it so he starts to understand. Much like the palm branches and songs we sing today!
I hope you also enjoy Palm Sunday and are preparing for Easter. Perhaps you can sing and jump up and down! Or not, depending on your age. However you enjoy today, I hope you spend some time looking ahead at the importance of next week. And don’t forget to wave those palm branches and sing hosanna today!
