Fourth Week of Advent: Love

Are you ready for the last week of advent? It’s hard to believe we are at the last week already! This week the theme is love. And it’s fitting to be focusing on love, as that is so much of what this Christmas story is about!

This theme, like Joy, is more relatable to young kids. E is starting to understand about love and who loves him. We talk about how Mama & Daddy, Grandma & Grandpa, Nana & Papa, all love him. So he is starting to grasp the idea. And it’s exciting to see him talk about these important people in his life.

Of course the love we talk about at Christmas time is the ultimate love. The love that was born in a stable and was sent to save the world! It’s such an amazing story. And ultimately it’s what Christmas is really about. The hard part can be translating this into our day to day lives.

We can show love during the season with the decorations, baking, Christmas parties and gifts that we give. Love is best when it is shared, just as Jesus was shared with the world. So we look for ways to make other people’s lives brighter during the season.

So this week I hope you are able to focus on love. Loving your loved ones, loving your neighbours and loving the stranger on the road who just cut you off and continued driving below the speed limit in front of you. They all need grace and they all need love.

God sent love into the world to be shared and spread. It wasn’t meant to be kept hidden! So call loved ones this week, send cards, bake cookies and pray for those you can’t see in person. And be sure to tell them how much you love them!
