Two by two, we’ve invited you! This is the theme I did for my son’s second birthday. He loves animals and for His first birthday we did “This Ain’t My First Rodeo” so I didn’t want to do a farm animal theme again.
My older son loves the Noah’s Ark story so I decided that’s what I would plan for the party!
Seeing as my son is born in May I like to do backyard party’s. But this theme could be done indoors as well. I love how versatile this theme can be, any sort of animal or boat (or water theme) can be used. This means its easy to be frugal when planning on a small budget!

Kids’ Activities
Of course I don’t like spending extra money so I created signs and decorations that I could print myself. I also did most of the food prep and cake myself. Activities for kids took a little more imagination but this is what I came up with:

Build the Ark
I brought out our tool bench and play tools and had the boys “build” the ark. I let them hammer away for a minute or two as we talked about the Noah’s Ark story. My boys know the story so it didn’t take very long.
We then made little boats out of tin foil (for full details on how to build a tin foil boat check out the link). This took help from adults, so if you have a party with little people it may not work as well. I had plenty of family (the aunties and uncles love doing crafts and activities with kids) to help so we built a few little “arks” together.
Alternatively you could have tin foil boats pre made or mostly assembled for kids to use.
Find the Animals
Next I hid some plastic animals around the yard for the boys to find so they could fill their ark with two of every kind of animal. Okay I didn’t have two of every kind of animal, but the boys got the idea! I got the plastic animals from the dollar store and if I was doing this party with more kids I would have sent the toys home in loot bags.
Load the Animals into the Ark and Sail Away

Now you are going to put your animals onto the ark and see if it floats! *The plastic animals likely will be too heavy for this part.*
I got our water table out but you could use a large bucket, kiddie pool or bathtub if you don’t have any other options! Then get your kids to put their tin foil boats into the water with some animals on the boat.
We used animal crackers as our animals on the boat. We loaded a few of them on and watched them float around. My four-year-old retold the story while my (now!) two-year-old started dropping crackers into the water and sinking the boats (lol).
The water got pretty murky after a while with disintegrated animal crackers everywhere so we had to dump and reload so they could continue playing. Do whatever works. Once you’ve talked about the story then let the kids play in the water or move on to the snacks.

God Sent a Rainbow (Snacks)
We finished off with rainbow fruit skewers as the rainbow God sent reminding us of His love and the fact that He would never flood the earth again!
Food
I tried to find as much animal or nautical related food as I could. Surprisingly this is easier said than done.
I did the fruit skewers in rainbow colours, had animal crackers and then crackers and dip. I tried to keep things simple and it was a nice spread.
I did a simple 9×13’ cake (I bought the rainbow sprinkle cake mix) and covered it in blue pudding frosting to make water. Then I used one of the printables as a caked topper, or the Ark sailing on the water. Simple but effective.
I made enough pudding frosting to cover the cake and then have leftovers as dip for the animal crackers too.

Birthday Party Fun
Get creative! Parties are meant to be fun but who says you can’t include some Bible stories into the day? These activities would also work great for a Sunday School lesson or Bible camp activity.
My boys had so much fun running around and enjoying the story in a different capacity. While my two-year-old is still a little young to understand the full extent of the story, children are never too young to start to learn about God’s love for them.
Keep things simple with these free digital downloads and ideas you can use when hosting or planning your next Birthday Party. Two by two or Noah’s Ark, however you want to phrase it, I hope this gives you some ideas for your next event!
