One of the amazing parts of the Christmas story is the long foretelling of Jesus’ coming. Scriptures and verses of the Old Testament talk about the coming saviour and through hope, gave people joy.
Prophets told about his birth years before it would happen and it filled people with wonder. They had hope that a mighty king would come and save them. Hope that a light in a dark world would shine bright for all to see. And through hope, this wonderful hope, we can find rest this Christmas!
Be strong, and let your heart take courage,

all you who wait for the LORD!
Hope is a powerful thing, it keeps people alive, keeps them going and keeps them focused. It’s also exciting! It’s good to have things to look forward to.
Just as we need hope in today’s world. We know Jesus already came but we can understand the excitement of the foretelling from years ago. The hope people felt because a saviour would be born for the world.
And we have hope because of his birth. We know that we will be saved because of his coming.

How is this restful though?
Find Rest Through Hope
Rest doesn’t always have to be something we do that involves laying down or “resting our eyes.” Rest can come in excitement. We can find rest in our hope for things to come.
It’s rest for our soul. When we know we can hope for wonderful things, our souls can breathe a sigh of relief. God’s got this. He sent a saviour for us!
So take a deep breath! Look around you, at your Christmas decorations, the snow, the lights, and remember the gift we look forward to on Christmas. Not the gifts wrapped under the tree, or the feast we share but the gift of love.
The wonderful gift that (literally) keeps on giving. The hope of Jesus’ coming will not run out of batteries or need to be recharged after a few days.
It is through hope, this wonderful hope, that brings us into the Christmas season and also carries us out of it. The hope doesn’t die when Christmas is over, it lives on. And that is the amazing part of the Christmas story.
So let your soul rest in that blessed thought. Jesus is coming. How marvellous, how wonderful, how hopeful!
