How often do we search for “inner strength?” We feel like our batteries are getting low and we don’t have time to recharge. So we dig a little deeper or find some “grit” just to make it through. But where does our strength come from? Who should we be seeking to renew us?
That according to the riches of his glory he may grant you to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in your inner being.
Ephesians 3:16

It’s not uncommon to feel the need to strengthen more than just our physical bodies. We aren’t always going to run a marathon or lift weights. Life is as much a mental game as a physical one. Exhaustion sets in and we don’t know if we can face another daunting task.
Even when we set realistic expectations for ourselves, we plan for days when we know we will be tired and do extra on the days when we have more energy, we still are going to have times when we feel the need to dig deep. There will be situations in our lives that seem overwhelming, regardless of how we look at them and we feel as though we aren’t equipped to deal with it.
We tell ourselves we need to summon the will to keep pushing forward. We just need to put our minds to the job and get it done.
But the thing about “inner strength” is that sometimes we think it comes solely from us. Which makes sense, inner strength must come from within. So we should be able to summon the courage or the strength on our own.
Inner Strength Comes from God
Honestly, this is one of the biggest lies we tell ourselves. “I can do it on my own.” The idea that we can be independent is enticing but it’s a lonely thought. Who wants to face a tough situation alone? Especially when there is someone who can give us strength like no other earthly thing; God!
One of the wonderful things about abiding in Christ is being strengthened right to the core. When we stay rooted, walk with him and work on characteristics to build our faith we also will be strengthened!
And we know that God’s strength is more powerful than our own. God moves mountains, parts waters and raises the dead. That’s the kind of strength I want in my inner being!
As a parent, I’ve needed inner strength more than any other time in my life. Parenting exhaustion is a level of tired I’ve never experienced. There is no break, no weekend, and no vacation from it.
As parents, we need God on our side renewing us every day. We wear out but God doesn’t. God has enough strength to keep us moving all day (and night if necessary).
We feel like we should be able to manage things all on our own, but that is a lonely thought. Let God be the one to renew you and walk with you, providing you with His strength to succeed.
You don’t put batteries in an object that works best hooked up to a power source. Same for your life! Don’t try to run on cheap batteries. Stay connected to God so you can be continuously strengthened.
So wherever you’re at this week in your daily life, at work or at home, pray to be strengthened in your inner being. It’s more than just physical strength or asking for patience. Ask God to renew you, right to your core. Spend time talking with him, reading your bible and enjoying his presence. Be strengthened and renewed by his spirit so you can accomplish amazing things!
