The friendship of the LORD is for those who fear him, and he makes known to them his covenant.

Psalm 25:14

Who comes to mind when you hear the word “friend?” Probably someone you enjoy talking to or can share an interest with. Perhaps you think of your spouse, your mom or a sibling, again someone you confide in.

We all need friends, whether we are 3, 33 or 83! Sometimes friendships come and go as our lives progress. We move and meet new people, sometimes staying connected and sometimes not. But we do have an everlasting friendship, and that is our friendship with God!

We may not always think of God as being a friend, but part of abiding in Christ is sharing the bond of friendship. And because of this relationship we also get to share in his covenant.

His what?

His covenant. A promise he made to protect and care for us. Not just in our earthly lives, but protect us from the sentence we carry for our sins. The covenant is what gives us access to eternal life.

God gives this freely, the only thing we need to do is remain faithful!

Let’s be honest, as a mom we need friendship. We also need protection. Not because we can’t take care of ourselves or our kids but because our jobs are hard and we shouldn’t do them alone. God is there to talk to whenever we need him. He offers his words of encouragement and hand of support at any hour!

Then we can teach our children about God’s friendship and how he will always care for us. God’s friendship strengthens us so we can strive to be the kind of mother God wants us to be. When we abide in him, we learn how to do the job his way!

There will be lonely moments in every point of our lives but they can be filled with God’s peace. He wants to hear our worries and concerns, our triumphs and thanksgiving. He cares about every aspect of our lives and wants to give us all he has to offer. He wants to give us life everlasting. He wants to share his covenant with us.

What an amazing friendship!

So we abide in Christ, gather strength from him and lean on him like a friend. We talk to him every day and walk in the word. We get to enjoy a unique friendship.

This week thank God for his friendship. Thank him for listening at any hour and promising to protect us!
