“Noel” has special meaning for me, (more than it just being a beautiful carol). I have fond memories of it because when I was pregnant with E, I sang it at our Christmas Eve service at our church.

I was almost 9 months pregnant and chose a song that wasn’t necessarily easy to sing (hello baby pushing on my lungs)! But it had become one of my favourite Christmas songs so that’s what I chose to sing.

The song is written by Chris Tomlin and performed by Lauren Daigle. If you haven’t heard it, I highly recommend listening.

It’s also the words in the song that make it special. It’s a song that lets you reflect on Noel – Christmas and what it means.

This is such a powerful lyric. When we think of the nativity scene we think of baby Jesus. We read the story that leads up to his birth, everything that had to transpire to get him to Bethlehem and everything he represented. It truly was a miracle. It would have been amazing to be a shepherd that night, to witness that.

Perhaps the most amazing part is that it isn’t just shepherds who were told to go see Jesus. We all are called to see what God has done. The story of amazing love is for everyone to enjoy.

We may not have angels that appear outside our houses or a giant star to follow but God still wants us to seek out Jesus. And once we find him, we return every Christmas to remember that wonderful night when he was born.

This week I hope you are able to marvel at the Christmas story. The last week before Christmas can be crazy, but don’t forget Jesus came to bring peace.

So I encourage you, if you haven’t already, to play this song and thank God for the amazing gift he gave. Let your kids cuddle on your lap, hold your partner’s hand or phone a friend to spread the joy. And then, (if you can) squeeze a minute of quiet out of your day to enjoy the peace the Christmas story brings. Let it fill your home with love!
