Moon dough is a fun and easy activity you can do with your kids, and it only takes two ingredients!

On a whim, I decided to try a new activity with my boys. I saw this and thought it looked interesting. More importantly, it’s easy and while it coated my kitchen in corn starch the first time, if you keep reading you’ll find out how to avoid the mess in yours!

I tried to mix this dough by hand straight away, which was a mistake. It left my four-year-old’s hand coated in corn starch, which kept puffing up all over the table and floor.
Once it was all worked in the dough was fun to play with. Only enough for one child so I made a second batch so my two-year-old could have more than a little bit.
With this batch, I started stirring with a spoon and once things were mixed, kneaded it with my hands. And voila, another fun mound of Moon Dough! Using a spoon first prevented the hand and kitchen coating. So don’t get those fingers in there until the dough has started to form with a spoon.
I prefer this to regular play-dough because it doesn’t have a terrible smell. It smells quite nice, because of the hair conditioner!
I grabbed a cheap bottle from the dollar store, so this activity didn’t waste any good, expensive hair product. I also used our store brand corn starch, so all in all it was an inexpensive activity!
Try it for yourself!
