Remembering God’s Good Deeds – Psalm 77:12

As humans we sometimes fall into the mental trap of asking God “have you forgotten me?” When life seems to be crushing us we wonder where God’s good deeds have gone. Does He really care about us?

I will ponder all your work,
and meditate on your mighty deeds.

Remembering God’s Good Deeds

Oh, how we can get angry sometimes. Anger that is directed at God when we feel lost or abandoned. When our lives take an unexpected turn when the bottom seems to drop out and we are left hanging.

It’s not fair.

It isn’t right.

Has God forgotten?

Why me?

This is the sentiment you feel in Psalm 77. The first half of the chapter is about crying out to God and wondering whether He is still there.

When you’ve met dark times, you might wonder the same too. It can be hard to trust God’s plan if it seems like His plan might crush you. It’s so easy to fall into the trap of feeling stomped on and forgotten by God.

God has a whole world of people to take care of so maybe you’ve been overlooked. As parents you worry you are raising your children wrong and God will not have favour on them. Or maybe you are finally being punished for the sins of your youth.

We fall down this rabbit hole and our thoughts spiral out of control because we lose sight of who our Lord is!

Who Is Our God?

This is where you need to stop yourself. Stop and think about who God is. What kind of God is He? Does he throw us down and leave us in the mud?

Of course not! He is a God of mercy and grace. Time and time again he has saved His people from persecution, from destruction and from harm. Under His wings we can find refuge and ride out the storm.

Remember God’s good deeds for your life!

God’s Good Deeds Are Testaments to His Faithfulness

There are countless stories in the Bible about God’s faithfulness. Psalm 77 reminds us of some of those stories.

God was faithful to His people and parted the Red Sea so they could walk across on dry land to escape from Egypt. A miracle and a promise that He would not let His people live in slavery forever. He did not forget them.

And you can look back on your own life to be reminded about God’s good deeds. The times He walked with you during sorrow. The time He jumped for joy at your exciting news.

He has been with you from the beginning, whether the situation was good or bad. His goodness follows you wherever you go.

God Will Be With You Forever

God does not abandon His people. He does not forsake them. In fact it is the opposite, He promises to save those who seek Him! Just as God parted the Red Sea so His people could walk across, God will part waters before you.

In times of doubt, sorrow, pain and anger, do not forget God. Keep your focus on Him and all His wonderful provisions. Remember His goodness and hold on to His promises. He will protect you, He will save you, He will not leave you.

Time and time again He has shown that He will keep His promises. He stretches out His mighty hand and shows His power. And He will do the same for you.

God has good things in store for you. He has good deeds for your life. Trust in His promise and walk with Him, even during the days of doubt. He will never leave nor forsake you!
